Preventive Dentistry for All Ages

No matter what age you are, preventive dental care is the key to a lifetime of optimal oral health and beautiful smiles. St. Joseph dentist Dr. Kole Krasniqi emphasizes prevention because it enables him to diagnose and treat problems while they’re still small. The earlier he can detect an issue, the more conservative and effective the treatment will be!

Routine Cleanings & Exams

During a standard dental cleaning, our hygienist will gently remove plaque and tartar (hardened plaque) from the surface of your teeth. Good home care removes a majority of plaque, but only a professional cleaning can completely clear off all of the tartar that builds up around the gum line over time.

After your cleaning, Dr. Krasniqi will perform a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, and existing dental restorations. He will also review your X-rays and evaluate any areas of concern that were noted by our hygienist during your cleaning.

Nightguards for Teeth Grinding

Do you find yourself clenching your jaw or grinding your teeth when you’re stressed? What about when you’re asleep? Involuntary teeth grinding can do a number on your teeth and jaw muscles, and because it usually occurs during sleep many people don’t even know they’re doing it.

Common signs of night-time teeth grinding are chronic jaw fatigue, daytime headaches, and chipped or fractured teeth. A comfortable, custom-fitted nightguard can give your jaw a rest and protect your oral health.

Oral Cancer Screenings

According to the American Cancer Society, the cure rate for oral cancer that is diagnosed and addressed early is extremely high. However, many of the signs and symptoms go unnoticed for years, increasing the likelihood that the cancer will spread to surrounding tissues. Dr. Krasniqi screens for signs of oral cancer during every routine dental exam, because early detection and treatment can save more than just your oral health—it can save your life.

We look forward to treating you at our East Ridge dental practice!

Periodontal (Gum) Health

Dental Gum Health

Routine dental cleanings and proper home care are just as important for your gums as they are for your teeth. Healthy gums hold your teeth in place, protect the underlying roots and bones, and protect you from the systemic effects of untreated gum disease.

According to the American Academy of Periodontology, about 47.2 percent of American adults currently have some form of gum disease. Gum disease is completely reversible when it’s caught early, but left undiagnosed it can lead to infections, tooth loss, and an increased risk of heart attack and stroke.

In the past, the most common treatment for gum disease was surgery. Dr. Krasniqi can treat many cases of gum disease right here at East Ridge Family Dentistry using less invasive procedures, including:

Deep Cleanings (Scaling & Root Planing)

One of the hallmarks of gum disease is recession. As the gums recede, the space between your gums and your teeth grows, creating what is known as a “perio pocket.” Deep perio pockets make the tooth surface below the gumline more susceptible to the formation of plaque and tartar, which further irritates the already sensitive gums.

A deep cleaning, also known as scaling and root planing, will break this cycle and allow the gums to heal and reattach to the tooth.

Arestin® Local Antibiotic Treatment

Arestin® is an antibiotic powder that stops gum disease right where it starts. After your deep cleaning, Dr. Krasniqi gently applies the Arestin powder to the small space between your tooth and gum tissue. Arestin has been proven to fight infection for up to 21 days, which gives your gums a boost in the healing process.

We look forward to treating you!
